(Pro skaters) Skateboarding - The New Baseball!

Skateboarding is a growing activity that is catching on like a wild fire! It is becoming so popular that you can now watch it on major television networks such as ESPN, MTV, and Fuel TV. Everywhere you look you will see something about Ryan Sheckler, Tony Hawk, Rob Dyrdek, or the latest and greatest kind of skateboards. I believe that more kids are enjoying skateboarding because it simply gives them much more freedom than traditional sports such as football and soccer. I think that this is a very good thing.

Children should be able to be creative, outgoing, and adventurous. They should also want to just go out and jump on their boards so they can be able to have the freedom of doing basically whatever they want. I know I do! Traditional sports do not let children be creative or have freedom. They have set rules and regulations that strip children of creativity and the freedom to do almost anything they want to do. This is a bad thing if you ask me.

Competition is also a big issue when it comes to sports. In my opinion, competition makes no sense. Why should children be playing and working against each other when they can be working and playing WITH each other. Competition only teaches and trains children to get ready for the “work” world. It does this because in the “real” world you have to be faced with competing with your fellow humans for a job and for many other things such as parking spaces, money in general, certain products, and concert/movie tickets.

Skateboarding has not even reached its full potential yet. Soon enough, I think it will be in The Olympics. It is only a matter of time. Snowboarding is already in The Olympics so why isn’t skateboarding? Very good question. Like I said, it’s only a matter of time until skateboarding reaches critical mass and is in The Olympics. Everywhere you look, brand spanking new skate parks are popping up. Why is this happening? Simply because children are starting to enjoy skateboarding way more than traditional sports and I understand why. Almost every town in the Los Angeles area has a beautiful perfect skate park and it only makes sense. Even in my home state of New Jersey there are skate parks popping up in almost every city. It is awesome! People are starting to simply become uninterested in competing in traditional boring sports because they already do that at their traditional boring jobs! Think about it, how do you get a promotion or a raise? You have to compete with the other employees. I believe that people are becoming sick and tired of competing all day long so they look for a good outlet that allows them freedom, and that amazing outlet is called skateboarding.
